The kitchen at summer camp was so chaotic. People were scrambling around, nearly running over each other, in order to get everything done before breakfast. The staff who didn’t work in kitchen was already collaborating with each other in the dining hall.

HA!” a loud voiced shouted from the dining area, “take that!

That’s-! Erika’s mind was suddenly racing. That’s Simon’s voice! “I’ll do the milk!” she announced. She quickly began counting out pitchers, putting them all on a trolley and pouring the milk into them. Now, while she worked, she could sneak a quick peak at Simon!

She pushed the doors open to the dining hall. Most of the barn staff were soaked to the bone, seated at their private staff table whereas the other staff members – the bunkhouse leaders – were all gathered around one table in the corner shouting out bets and even gambling.

“Ten bucks on Sye!” one of the spectators declared loudly.

“I’ll take you on!” another barked back, “ten bucks on Janet!”

“You’re on, man!”

Erika put a pitcher on Simon’s table. She looked at Simon and when he looked back at her, sudden heat rushed to her face. She turned away quickly.

Wow, she thought silently, he’s so… dreamy!

“Um… what are you doing?” Erika looked up suddenly to see Joel O’Brien standing in front of her, his arms folded.

“What do you mean what am I doing?” Erika barked back. “I’m doing my job! Getting your refreshments!”

“I mean about this!” Joel pointed at her.

“Huh?” Erika looked down at herself. “So what? I’ve got a bit of flour on me? What’s the big deal?”

Joel’s jaw plummeted. “You work in kitchen, right? Aren’t you always supposed to be clean?!

“If you think kitchen is as clean as in the movies, why don’t you take a turn cooking everyone’s breakfast?!” Erika glared up at him.

“Hey, what’s your issue?” Joel’s eyes narrowed, “I’m just saying how you should be professional-looking while you do your job.”
