Angel leaned over the wall and sighed. Below the clouds, the city bustled about. Lines of cars moved in every direction like a swarm of ants. Lights flicked on and off like the tails of lightning bugs. Birds and planes criss-crossed the space between the city and the heavens.

“Angel, have you no work today?”

What an annoying voice on such a nice day. Angel rolled his eyes and turned. Innocence stood before him with his arms crossed over his chest and a rather annoying half smile on his face. His golden blonde hair was pulled up into a ponytail and he looked as though he was dressed like a 50’s greaser. Angel forced himself to smile as he turned from his view and joined him. “Why yes, Innocence. As a matter of fact-I do.”

Innocence snorted. “Daydreaming about the sheeple again?”

Angel pulled his strawberry blond hair bak into a short pony tail. “Not polite to say such things about the humans.”

“But they are sheep,” Innocence persisted. “Constantly wandering off, easily lead astray. Tiresome.”

“Have you ever thought of what it must be like for them?”

Innocence zipped his jaket and adjusted his braselets. “What do you mean?” They approached the golden gates of heaven. The gatekeeper nodded to them and began turning a large golden wheel. There was a slight squealing sound as the gates began to slide open.

Angel looked down as the breeze whipped some loose hairs around his head. “Trying to live and the constant pull of heaven and hell in your daily lives.”

Innocence was quiet as the gates clunked to a stop.

Satisfied, Angel went out first. His large white wings blocked out the sun. He looked over his shoulder. “See, Innocence? It’s not as easy as you think.” Before he could reply, Angel dove over the cloud cliffs and spiraled down into the city below.
