To Snow's surprise, the huntsman was speechless when she filled him in.
"Wait, you guys have a plan for this, don't you?" she said.
"Ummm, actually we don't. We had no idea this kind of thing was actually in the works for her. To be honest we just wanted to send you on a random mission to test your skills."
"Are you kidding me?"
"We hadn't used you in a while, so we figured we'd check to see if you've gotten rusty."
"Unbelievable," said Snow as she accidentally stepped in a puddle on the forest path.
"Anyway, we probably don't have much time," said the huntsman. "What do you think we should do?"
"How the hell should I know? That's your job."
"Well do you have any ideas?"
Snow stopped walking and looked around helplessly at the forest. She had never grown immune to its verdant beauty. Every stroll through the woods filled her with warmth and pleasant memories.
Suddenly she remembered something the queen had said.
"What about the dwarves?" she said into her bracelet.
"What about them?
"The queen said she was gonna blame the fire on them. Maybe if we let them know what's up, they can go into town, find some alibis or something. Then the queen wouldn't be able to do the deed without it being obvious she was responsible."
"No, that won't do," said the huntsman dismissively. "Those noisy little guys? They're good for nothing. It'll just get them upset. Then they'll go around singing about it at the top of the lungs. Once the birds hear about it, it will spread through the forest in a matter of days."
"So? If we expose the queen, then they'll put a stop to her."
"I wish it were that easy, but you know what these forest folk are like. So flighty and innocent. They'll never be able to organize adequate forces in time. Especially since if there's one thing that will speed the queen up, it's the threat of revolution."
Snow had been looking at a bush with drooping flowers. When she touched one lightly with her fingers, it wilted even further. She sighed.
"So there's no hope then?"
The huntsman chuckled.
"I wouldn't say that, Snow. You seemed to handle that last secret mission with ease. I bet you can handle a couple more, right?"
